About Me.
Bethia Tam (b.1998) is a Hong Kong ceramicist now based in the midlands, United Kingdom. Regarding herself as a material explorer, Bethia's practice in ceramics focuses on the interaction between clay and other materials, bringing out the transformation and possibilities of clay with an experimental approach. Her works are not limited by using traditional pottery methods such as handbuilding, wheel throwing and slip-casting. Instead, she keeps exploring new ways of making, experimenting clay and its potential. Being inspired by the concept of Materiality, risk taking is greatly involved in her practice. By allowing the form to speak itself, reaching an equilibrium between intention and natural occurrence. In addition, she is enthusiated of glaze experimenting which are also shown from her works.
