The Variations Series

The Variations series, a material-led experimentation inspired by the metamorphosis of insects, especially the transformation of forms and shapes. By adopting the concept of materiality, risk taking played an important part in her practice. I sought for the state of equilibrium between the workmanship of risk and the workmanship of certainty. Each sculpture is unique on its own which there's no way to replicate due to the number of uncertainties faced. During the process, the sculptural works experienced various stages of transformation, especially during the firings. Echoing the life cycle of insects and showing the similarities between itself and ceramics. Furthermore, inspired by material usage during Arte Povera, found materials and recycled objects are used together with paper clay to create ceramic sculptures, pushing the potential of clay.
